Target Marketing

Target Marketing is diving the market into segments on which an organization focuses it's marketing plan and toward which it directs its marketing efforts and strategies.  Before one can target a market, you must first use a process called segmentation.  Segmentation requires dividing customers into segments based on demographic and psychographic characteristics.  These factors can include age, geography, interests, social and social status to name a few. After one has segmented customers, target marketing can then take place.

A technique that has been introduced though the iPhones are the use of applications downloads.  With a growing interest and consumer want for smart phones, consumers are pathing a way for the marketing industry.  The Wall Street Journal  made a very interesting point regarding Vogue Magazine.  Vogue readers with iPhone's have the opportunity to purchase a "Vogue Stylist."  This application allows users to click on Vogue ad, and that ad will link the user directly to the retail website.  This application is a major marketing tool because it lets fashionistas just a few clicks away from making a major purchase.
